Well-known for its English since its beginning, Christ’s College Taipei maintains a unique content-based English major which includes specialized programs in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), International Business Studies, Christian Literature, and Applied English. Primarily designed for Intermediate to Advanced EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students, the curriculum is expanding to meet the needs of near-Native English speakers. In addition, English major faculty help provide instruction for non-English major students at the Basic (Low) and Regular (Intermediate) levels.
Qualities unique to CCT’s English major are our faith-based learning, interactive approach, and faculty commitment and approachability. First and foremost, all of the full-time and adjunct faculty members are professing Christians who seek to integrate faith and learning in their classes. They encourage students to reflect upon and apply Christian principles in academics and in daily life. Moreover, most courses take a Western, hands-on approach to language learning, challenging students to be proactive in their studies and to grow in areas of face-to-face communication, cooperative presentations, personal sharing, and creative projects. Finally, many of the faculty members have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the college, with several living on campus alongside the students. Thus, the students are provided with opportunities to interact outside the classroom – discussing personal issues, practicing English, baking cookies, and celebrating holidays..
